Live Mass from 36 Catholic Cathedrals
Watch live-streamed Mass from 36 great Catholic cathedrals — each a diocese's mother church and the seat of its bishop — with a direct link to its live stream.
What is a cathedral?
A cathedral is the principal church of a diocese — the one that holds the cathedra, the bishop’s throne (from the Greek kathédra, “seat”). It is the mother church from which the bishop leads the local Church, so a cathedral’s significance is chiefly liturgical and administrative rather than devotional.
A cathedral becomes a pilgrimage destination only when it also holds a saint’s tomb, a major relic or an approved apparition — as at Santiago de Compostela and Cologne, which appear on our pilgrimage hub for that reason.
